Cancellara breaks collarbone at Flanders

The RadioShack-Nissan-Trek team announced that its classic star, Fabian Cancellara, has suffered a triple fracture of his right collarbone after crashing in a feedzone during Sunday’s Ronde van Vlaanderen.

Cancellara, considered to be a co-favorite to win the Tour of Flanders, took a hard fall approximately 62km from the finish in Oudenaarde.

Cancellara was transported to a local hospital, where the team began to make arrangements to have the rider transferred to Basel, Switzerland. He is expected to undergo surgery on the fracture. The former Paris-Roubaix winner will most certainly miss next Sunday’s “Hell of the North,” but surgical repairs to the clavicle do speed up the expected recovery period.

  1. The only thing worse than breaking a collar bone is breaking one so early in the season.

Well, there are worse things …

Here's hoping the docs in the land of fine timepieces have come up with some sort of crazy glue for internal use.
